The EC-12 Class 2005 Region IV Championship Regatta was held August 19,20,21 at Axehead Lake. Friday was test & tune day, it was hosted by Gary Mueller; the weather was nice with good winds.
    Saturday started out with an overcast sky and a good 10 to 12 knot west wind. The course was set up as a windward leeward course (east to west) with offsets at each end (8 boat links apart and considered as one mark). All 18 boats raced all of the races, boy was that something to see. The rescue boat was only used one time to help out Rick West. The winds had picked up a little by lunchtime and some of the skippers put on “B” rigs. A good lunch of Quizno’s subs & chips was served. The afternoon got off to a fast start and when the smoke cleared we had finished 12 races “WOW”
    Sunday was a beautiful day with 10 to 12 knot northwest winds; this makes it difficult to set up a course. We set up a course we have never used at Axehead before. The course was set as a windward leeward course with offsets at each end (8 boat links apart and considered as one mark). It was noted at the skippers meeting that the windward mark was so far away that if you touched the mark you didn’t have to take a penalty turn. By 10:15 am we had completed 5 races so we took a 15 min break for everyone to relax and check their boats. At 12:30 pm we stopped for lunch break (Quizno’s sub’s & chips). The afternoon racing was good and buy 2:00 pm we had completed 12 races. 24 races in 2 days WOW that’s some racing!
   After checking all the scores and cleaning up the course, the awards were handed out. Thanks to Gary Mueller for the great trophies, 1st place was an EC-12 in a bottle, 2nd thru 5th where plaques with an EC-12 half hull.
   Thanks to all the skippers who came to race, without you we could not have had a Regatta. A special thanks to John Conley for handling the RD duties. A big thanks to the Regatta committee for a great job of coordinating the Regatta. Thank you to all the members of the Chicago RC Model Yacht Club.
